O'BRIEN GLASS CASE STUDY
Customer
- O’Brien Glass is the market leader in the glass industry
- The brand is a household name with an astonishing 80% brand awareness
- O’Brien is part of the Belron Group, a huge global player in the glass industry
Situation
- The HR Director of O’Brien recognised that to fulfil its goal of high quality service and sales it needed to change its approach to selection
- O’Brien hired people mainly through ‘standard’ interviewing techniques but did not use any other assessment methods
- There was an opportunity and a need in the business for more rigour and objectivity in the selection process.
Task
- Human Chemistry collaborated with O’Brien to design a thorough selection methodology for each level of the Business
- Human Chemistry analysed the Business, at all levels, to understand the roles and what was required for success in each of them
- Human Chemistry then designed and validated a thorough (but commercially viable) assessment process tailored to suit each role/level
- For example, at the Regional Manager level, in addition to going through a behavioural interview with the Business, participants are now required to complete the following assessments relevant to the role:
- analytical and problem solving tests
- business case study
- leadership simulation
- Human Chemistry then worked with O’Brien to build a training program around the selection methodology (based on Natural Selection®) to enable managers to utilise the upgraded system effectively
Outcome
“Human Chemistry were instrumental in helping to transform our selection approach from a loose, gut feel model to the tight, accurate approach it is today. There has, as a consequence, been a dramatic increase in the level of performance and alignment of new hires”.
